Moog Micromoog

Price is 650GBP - personal pick up is recommended but will ship to UK destinations.

In fair cosmetic condition but very clean and tidy. Electronically it is in very good condition. All pots have been completely dismantled, cleaned and regreased. All switches have been thoroughly cleaned. The main circuit board has been given a good clean and overhaul. All polarised capacitors have been replaced and some audio pathway components have been upgraded - including the audio coupling capacitors and op-amps. The keyboard CV circuitry has been made more stable, and the several improvements have been done to make the unit less prone to spurious behaviour. The power supply has also been rebuilt with more stable components.

The keyboard contacts have been replaced with a new old stock set of contacts and both these and the buss bar have been cleaned. The keyboard has been cleaned, rebushed, re-aligned and lubricated. An IEC mains inlet socket has been fitted to the rear in place of the usual tired cable and grommet system.

The unit has the following mechanical issues:

There is a little dint on the rear aluminium trim (see photo below).

The internal wood support is missing. This provides extra support to the vacuum formed moulding under the keys at the front. This is not the first Micromoog I have seen with this bit of wood missing and I guess, on this one, it went missing a long time ago. Even without this wood the front of the keyboard is still strong enough and keeps it shape.

The pitch bend ribbon has been refurbished and works very well. The old cracked modulation wheel has been replaced with a modified Roland pitch bend lever.

When I first got this unit some of the original knobs were missing, some were broken and others were in a poor condition. So I replaced the lot with these Memorymoog knob clones from Technology Transplant. Personally I think these are much more attractive than the original plastic skirted design.

The old faded switch caps have also been replaced with new Technology Transplant clones except for the VCA bypass one at the end.

The stock Micromoog comes with plastic fake veneer on the end cheeks. Most these days are in poor condition and this one's veneer was worse than many. I removed all the old plastic and glue. Then after sanding the surface smooth I stained and applied several coats of wax to it. The effect is rather pleasing.

Alas the unit is not in perfect condition. At some point in its life it must have suiffered a bump as this dint in the aluminium trim indicates. I spent some time getting it back into shape and this has helped a bit.
